Six and a half men

My Name is Shane I am a 3rd Dan Tae Kwon-do instructor for the TAGB. Last summer I walked up Snowdon and decided that it would be a great idea to do the three peaks. I asked my students if they would like to take part in the event but for some reason they did not. I asked Mark a good friend and old student that has a love for the outdoors if he would like to join me. Without Mark getting involved this project would not have got started and it would be me on my own in a pair of trainers and T-shirt (some rainy days on Dartmoor soon got me getting the right gear!). Why the team name of six and a half men? I hear you ask, although I am a 3rd Dan Tae Kwon-do instructor my height (a very modest 5ft 6”) is often the butt of many a joke (O how we laugh at the short man jokes) so I am the half! Fundraising for Devon Community Foundation and the Cornwall Community Foundation

We know the Three Peaks Challenge has been done before but not by any of us oldies and we are doing it in March when the weather could add to the challenge. The three peaks are three of the highest mountains in Scotland,England and Wales - Ben Nevis 4,409ft, Scafell Pike 3,210ft and Snowdon 3,560ft. Our plan is to start at the foot of the first, climb all three peaks and finish at the foot of the third within 24 hours to include the driving. We can't afford any mistakes to complete it in that time so our navigation will need to be spot on and there will definitely be no dawdling! We will be physically and mentally exhausted at the very least! Any tips are very welcome. In return all we ask is that you make a donation. The charities we are hoping to raise funds for are the Devon Community Foundation and the Cornwall Community Foundation. Donations will go to the Devon CF and they will share it with Cornwall. Please take a look at their websites to see the great work they do offering a broad range of help in many areas of our communities. We will provide photos and updates as regularly as we can. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. So please dig deep and donate now.
