Fundraising for Candlelighters Children's Cancer Charity

Candlelighters are a children's cancer charity working across Yorkshire. They provide children and their families with support from the point of diagnosis for as long as they are needed, throughout treatment and beyond. For 40 years, they have brought light to children and their families in the darkest of times, by providing emotional, practical and financial support. Each year 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer. They rely solely on the generous support of the community to continue delivering these services to new families each year. As a children's dentistry team, we work with oncology teams to make sure that children have healthy mouths ahead of their cancer treatment. As a result, our team gets to meet many of these children and their families and we see first hand the support that Candlelighters provide and how appreciated this is. On the 10th September a group of our dentists, dental nurses, and dental therapists are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks as part of Candlelighters Great Yorkshire Challenge. This involves ascending three peaks in Yorkshire: Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. This will entail a total of 24 miles of walking and 1585m of ascent. We will be taking our department mascot Otis along for the journey, who is pictured enjoying a trip to our European Conference in Lisbon earlier this year. We'd like to raise £2000 for this fantastic charity to spur us on to complete this challenge - any donations that can be spared would mean a lot to both our team and the Candlelighters charity.
