Fundraising for ICU COVID WARRIORS

Fundraising is underway to raise money to buy a Sarah Combilizer by the Pilgrim Hospital Boston Intensive Care Unit (PHB ICU). Fighting COVID-19 for the past year has been a test of endurance, perseverance and teamwork, not just for the staff but patients as well. 10 individuals are setting out to conquer the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in a battle to raise money for equipment that will contribute towards improved patient care. The Sara Combilizer is a a sit-to-stand early mobilisation aid. It is a combined tilt table and stretcher chair, which allows passive transfer of patients out of bed who are at risk of ICU acquired weakness. Early mobilisation improves strength and prevents hospital acquired illnesses. The pandemic saw a lot of our patients staying in for long periods and requiring vigorous rehabilitation after their critical care period. The Sara Combilizer would help to introduce that rehabilitation during critical care treatment. It is currently quoted at £13 045 excluding VAT or a total £15 654. While we recognise how ambitious this figure is as a target to raise, it is not without hope that we will get the support and donations to raise as much as we can.
