Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
My one friend from Uni was diagnosed with cancer around 18 months ago and very sadly lost the battle last month (aged 43). Helen was an absolute rock. She was always available, no matter the time or circumstance, and always had a positive solution to every situation. Despite many situations being somewhat troubling! She really was the best friend anyone could wish for.
Ever since she was diagnosed, I've wanted to do something to help, which means I mostly just text her annoying messages of 'support' like "Ummm, can you get better soon so we can drink wine and moan", "Can you just punch it in the throat now please?", or "You can't be ill, you have too much friending to do". Her attitude throughout was an absolute inspiration and I'm so proud to have been her friend.
So, rather than just ensuring she knew how much she was loved, I decided I should try and raise money for her chosen charity, Macmillan. If it wasn't for the honesty and gutsy realism of her Macmillan nurse, she would never have been married. Her family and close friends would not have been there for her as much as they were, her husband may not have been by her side at the end, and she certainly would have had a different frame of mind.
So to thank Macmillan for the work that they do, we're attempting the Three Peaks Challenge...
