Rainbow House was established in 2001 in the village of Eccleston; it was unbeknown then just what an impact it would have on the lives of many people… A local Mother of two little boys who both inherited a rare genetic condition wanted to ensure she could give them the best life chances possible, and believed she could help others like them. It was through her research and determination that Rainbow House was created, providing a specialist service called Conductive Education (CE) to children with disabilities. Within the first two years of service provision being offered, the number of children attending had increased dramatically. More staff were employed, including professional Conductors (specialist educators) who qualified at the Peto Institute in Hungary, the first ever CE centre. Rainbow House became a Registered Charity in 2003 and in 2007 due to the increasing demand for services, the charity re-located to larger premises in the neighbouring village of Mawdesley. At this point, The Legacy Nursery, (a fully integrated childcare provision) also opened its’ doors providing quality care and education to children of ALL abilities. In January 2008, the charity was fortunate enough to have the building officially opened by HRH Princess Royal. Over the years the charity has been able to successfully provide Fun Clubs and Short Break services, providing fun, educational experiences for the children, whilst simultaneously giving parents and carers much needed respite. Many of the service-users who attended CE as children, are now young adults and seek further support in the future and the charity has also received an increased number of enquiries from adults requiring help. The charity has therefore opened another purpose–built facility, the ‘Rainbow Hub’. This building and all of its’ specially designed features, ensures that the charity have the capacity to provide services to children, young people and adults, long term. The original vision of the Founder has certainly been fulfilled and the charity continues to deliver services, and respond to need.
