Rookie Climbers

About a year ago, an idea formed between some friends to take on the three peaks challenge. The idea began to turn into reality, meetings began to happen setting a number of wheels in motion. Tasks were allocated and the reality of "just going for a walk" was clearly not the only task. The 3 Peaks Challenge, climbing the 3 highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon), is to be completed in under 24 hours. On Friday 26th June, our team of 6 will take on the challenge starting at 5pm with the aim to finish by 5pm on Saturday 27th June (an approximate walk of 26 miles and ascent of 9,800ft). We've been training hard since the new year climbing many hills including Yes Tor, High Willhayes, a Trek of Sidmouth's hills, the 4 Trigs, Dartmoor Trek and Pen-y-fan. We have also been training hard in the gym focussing on our core and leg strength via circuit training, Insanity!, group cycling, resistance and intense cardio training. This has helped us develop as a strong team understanding what makes us tick. It's been hard completing the training but also a great pressure on our personal lives to which we cannot thank our families and friends enough. Completing such a challenge carries with it a high cost for what many would perceive as achieving a personal challenge. We have discussed ways in how we can reduce our costs in order to enable us to make the shift the task away for personal financial burden. This cannot be completing avoided but we have been very fortunate to receive sponsorship from 2 fantastic companies that have helped us turn our idea and planning into reality, we also cannot thank them enough. This has not meant we have avoided personal costs, it has greatly helped in obtaining the items needed to safely complete the challenge. However, we didn't just want to do it for the fun of it! As a team we agreed that our main aim in completing the challenge is to raise awareness and funds for 2 fantastic charities that are close to our team's hearts. Our chosen charities are Bibic and Friends of Buburi.
