DUCK Three Peaks Challenge (Big Red Bus Group)

About the group

Durham University Charity Kommittee (DUCK) organizes charity events for members of Durham University, including the Three Peaks Challenge each year after final exams. My group was one of three which took part in the challenge on the weekend of 7-8th June 2014 and the only one to complete the challenge in the time. Our imaginative group name derives from the wonderful mini bus that became our home from home over the weekend. The groups were split into fitness levels and ours was the 'fast' group for 'above average fitness'. A level my friends, whom I signed up with, and I believed ourselves to be at, having not taken into account the hours we were to spend sitting in the library slaving over our dissertations and finals! However the fellow mountain goats of the group kept the pace up and spirits were even higher when we made it across the line in time, having run down Mt Snowdon as if our life depended on it! All of the Durham University teams who took part over the weekend were raising money for the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team. The TWSMRT is funded entirely by donations and operates 24hrs a day, every day of the year, responding to police requests. Such a worthwhile cause and source of inspiration and admiration whilst we were climbing through snow on Ben Nevis and thick cloud on Scafell Pike.
