3 peaks for 3 Charities

In May 2012 I will be climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK: Scotland’s Ben Nevis 4,409ft, England’s Scafell Pike 3,209ft, & Wales’s Snowdon 3,560ft in that order. The aim is to achieve this in 24 hours, and will involve approx 26 miles of walking and a 450 miles drive between the mountains. I intend to climb each peak for a different charity and have good reasons for choosing the first 2. The 1st ‘ABF The Soldiers Charity’ (Ben Nevis): I spent 23 years in the Army and know full well that you do not hear the full story of what is happening to our forces, i.e. when an IED (bomb) explodes you only hear about the poor person that has been killed, you do not hear about the others that have been maimed and injured. The 2nd, ‘The Stroke Association’ (Scafell) is personal. In 2007, at 59 years old, I suffered 2 minor strokes and have been very lucky to make a full recovery. I managed to raise over £1,200 in 2008 running in the Great North Run for them, and hope to at least double it this time. My 3rd charity ‘DebRA’ (Snowdon) is the national charity working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). I will be doing this as a solo effort (apart from the driving). To do this challenge as part of an organised group costs approx £300, so by undertaking this independently I can donate that extra amount direct to the charities.
