Mountain Maites

Elaine Maitland and Lisa Chapple from Bedford decided after a joke about participating in a zumba class for charity (long story - but basically we can't dance!!!) to try something more challenging like the 3 peaks!! We are both strong willed, determined and have a good level of fitness and therefore think we have a good chance of completing the challenge within the 24 hours. Also part of our team is our all important driver - Brian Gregory who has kindly agreed to help and assures us he will rescue us if we get lost!!! (Hoping with our pre planned navigation this won't happen!)

Fundraising for Ehlers Danlos Support UK

We have chosen Ehlers Danlos Support (EDS) UK as the charity for our challenge as Elaine's 4 year old daughter 'Lexie' was recently diagnosed with the condition and Elaine has found the support group really helpful. EDS is a genetic condition affecting collagen and therefore skin and connective tissue. There are several different types of EDS, ranging from Hypermobility type to more serious types which affect the heart, and other organs and can be life threatening. Thankfully, Lexie suffers the less severe hypermobility type, even so we have been through some very upsetting and traumatic times with her. Ehlers Danlos Support UK is a charity that receives less support than some of the bigger charities as the condition has little awareness, and as it is close to hearts with Lexie, this is the reason for our choice. We thank you for taking the time to read our story and hope you will support us in our adventure.
