Fundraising for Duchenne UK

As a family, we have decided to raise money for ‘Duchenne UK’, in memory of Anika’s eldest brother Mandip who sadly passed away in 2007, to Duchenne Muscular dystrophy (DMD), at 22 years. The challenge we have chosen is the Yorkshire Three Peaks. This is a 24.5 mile (39.2km) circular trek in the Yorkshire Dales. On Saturday 1st July 2023, we will work our way up Whernside (2,415 feet), we will then move onto Ingleborough (2,372 feet) and finish with Pen-y-ghent (2,227 feet). DMD is a progressive condition diagnosed in childhood. It causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken, eventually leading to full-time wheelchair use. This in time can become life-threatening affecting the muscles in the lungs and heart. Mandip was diagnosed with DMD at the age of 9, when he frequently started to fall and had difficulty running and jumping. As a family they really struggled with losing this incredible, loving brother / son. Although Mandip had DMD, with the support of his family, he was still able to go out; spend time with friends and family; and even go on holidays such as America, where he was able to meet the Queen! Those who knew him, will forever remember that he was ALWAYS laughing. This charity is therefore close to our hearts, and we would love to be able to have the opportunity to raise money for them. The money raised will help support the charity by: - Providing the best possible care and treatment to everyone affected by DMD - By accelerating research in this condition in methods such as gene therapy
