Nyah Rose Lakey's Three Peaks Challenge

Nyah at 21 months old was full of life, happy, bright, independent, willful and very much loved. She went from being a healthy little girl to being on life support as her body was ravaged by a Strep A infection and sepsis. Our incredible NHS did everything possible to save her. Nyah survived six surgeries and a week on ECMO in intensive care but her brain damage was extensive. Turning the machines off was the only option. Holding my baby girl whilst she took her last breath is something I can barely put words to. Sepsis wasn't something I had heard of in 2013, and I wasn't alone in this. It is something more people are aware of ten years later thanks to the work of charities like the Sepsis Trust who aim to eradicate preventable deaths from sepsis. Fantastic friends and family got me through the days, weeks and months after Nyah's death. Ten years later they are still there: This time some have offered to join me in walking a marathon distance up and down the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money in Nyah's memory. We will do this on 30th April 2023.

Fundraising for UK Sepsis Trust

UK Sepsis Trust say: Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths and unnecessary suffering through knowledge and awareness of the symptoms. It also funds vital support work, public awareness, educates health professionals and helps people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our support group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
