Fundraising for Mission EmployAble & Children with Cancer

Mission Employable help ready and train young adults with learning disabilities for the world of work so they can lead meaningful, fulfilled lives, strongly believing that young adults with learning disabilities have the right to work, to lead fulfilled and purposeful lives, to have their individual gifts and talents recognised and to feel included as valued members of society. There are 1.5 million people with learning disabilities in the UK and almost 94% are unemployed. Far too many are missing out on the basic right to aspire to a career, along with the wider social networks, better emotional and physical health, and increased independence that comes from having a job. Based in a new purpose built pavilion on the existing site of the Chorleywood Cricket Club, Mission EmployAble aims to run a new training café / tea room for cricketers and their community. Through this provision they will provide employment programmes to young adults with a wide range of abilities. They want people with learning disabilities to reach their career potential by finding suitable employment, to be valued in the workplace and to play an active role in their local community. (www.missionemployable.co.uk) Chorleywood is just a short drive up the road from our Rickmansworth office, the founding place of Sagacity all those years ago, so the benefits of the Mission EmployAble work will be seen and felt in the local community. The charity is growing, as we are, and they are likely to feature in both local and national press over the coming year as the Chorleywood Café is built and opened. Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. The charity was founded in 1987 by Marion and Eddie O’Gorman in memory of their son, Paul. For over 30 years they’ve been raising money and funding vital research to save the lives of children with cancer and keep families together. Their mission is to improve survival rates across all types of childhood cancer by finding kinder, safer treatments and ultimately a cure. They also support children and their families to live better during and after treatment. Since 1988, their research funding has helped to drive up childhood cancer survival rates, improving from 67.3% in 1990 to a predicted 85.5% in 2018. They have raised over £250 million to date which has funded over 200 research projects and many other vital services for young cancer patients. They will not stop until every child survives. (www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk) With 1 in 2 people getting cancer in their lifetime, we all know someone affected by it whether that is the illness itself or the devastation it leaves in its wake. And looking after young people, nurturing them and their futures inherently lies in most people so there is no better way to achieve both and select a charity that supports children with cancer.
