My brother Tom and I, originally from Buckinghamshire, came up with the idea to fundraise for the Stroke Ward at Milton Keynes Hospital after our dad suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure in early July 2020 which affected the left side of his body. He was in hospital for 4 weeks and was cared for by the amazing team on the Stroke Ward/Ward 7 at Milton Keynes Hospital. Whilst in hospital our dad mentioned to us that there was around 12 of them on a ward and there was only one stedy on the ward. The stedy was used to get patients to and from the toilet, bathroom, rehab and so if one person was using it no-one else could. We wanted to start fundraising so the ward could buy more of these and/or any vital equipment they need to give stroke survivors the best possible chance of doing well in their rehabilitation. We wanted to do a challenge to fundraise as much money as possible and as high blood pressure makes you three times more likely to suffer a stroke we thought what better way to raise money and to raise awareness of the risks of high blood pressure that the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Our mum Nicola decided to join us and members of my football team (Leeds City Ladies FC) and some family/friends were keen to take part too.
Fundraising pageWe are raising money for the amazing team working on the Stroke Ward at Milton Keynes Hospital in Buckinghamshire. This is the first fundraising event of hopefully many more to raise money for stroke charities and raise awareness of the risk factors of strokes.
