3 Peaky Old Timers

I am an RAF veteran who has had some difficulties with my own mental health. I enjoy making scale models and wargaming (I am a Geek). During my time in the RAF, I joined the Mountain rescue team for 4 years, helped a lot of people, learned a lot on the hills of the UK and loved every minute, 10 years later things started to unravel as some of the events I witnessed resurfaced, I finally was diagnosed with PTSD in 2012. I have not walked up a mountain since 1997 (one of the reoccurring problems of my PTSD) So this will be a huge personal challenge for me as well as a physical one. I found out about the Models for Heroes charitable cause recently and it is right up my street. Its for serving and ex service personnel to get the help they need through therapeutic sessions creating scale models. I also hope to volunteer for the charity in local sessions helping other veterans and passing on some of my tips. I work with David and Kevin at Eastern Airways and we are all ex-forces, we wanted to do something for a cause and settled on doing the three Yorkshire peaks.

Fundraising for Models for Heroes

Aims 1.To provide a reliable supply of quality scale model kits and relevant modelling materials to military and mental health organisations and charities in the UK. 2.To promote and teach the scale modelling hobby as a benefit to mental and physical health and well-being. For every £15 we can purchase basic model making tools (cutting mats, clippers, tweezers and sanders) to give to a veteran to start their therapeutic journey. £10 will pay for a box of models to be couriered anywhere in the UK following clinical referrals on 'social prescription'. In December 2018 we completed 8 referrals from Psychologists, mental health teams and support workers. £5 can buy a basic starter kit of a Spitfire or a Hurricane that can reignite the passion for model making and can be displayed at the beneficaries home as a trophy of recovery.
