Fundraising for Mark Douglas Just Giving

The Story (As highlighted on Just Giving): Just prior to Christmas 2017, Mark was involved in a terrible accident which resulted in severe head and spinal injuries. The injuries included bleeding to the brain and a dislocated vertebrae. Mark has now been in hospital for 7 months, having first spent 4 months in the Critical Care Unit of Salford Royal Hospital, thereafter moving to the Spinal Injuries Unit in Southport. The injuries sustained have meant Mark is paralysed from the shoulders downwards. He was also reliant on a ventilator to breathe due to the damage to his spinal cord. Over the past few month Mark has gradually been redeveloping his ability to breathe independently of the ventilator and has recently been able to start breathing on his own entirely. Now that he is able to breathe on his own, Mark is really eager to get home as soon as possible. Due to his paralysis however, his home is not currently suitable to meet his needs. This includes needing items like a ramp, a wet room and rearranging of the rooms and layout. Unfortunately, there is no government funding available to make these adaptions and the onus has therefore fallen to the family to adapt their home to enable the move home. Without these adaptions, Mark will not be able to return home. There have already been some charitable contributions raised to recognise the fantastic hospital care Mark has had. We'd now like to recognise and support the family in making the necessary adaptions to their home, which will enable Mark to come home. Mark's family have been fantastic throughout. If you know Mark, you'll know he is one of the nicest guys you're ever likely to meet. If you know his family, you'll know they are incredible and have been so strong and supportive throughout this massively challenging time. We'd like to recognise Mark and his family and help them to make the adaptions to their home necessary so that he can come home. Anything which you're able to donate will go straight to the family to support bringing Mark home.
