Fundraising for RSPCA Warrington Halton and St Helens Branch and The Souda Shelter Project, Crete

My last fundraising challenge was in 2015, so it's time to take action for 2 causes very close to my heart. I wanted a real challenge, at the time I committed to this I wasn't very fit and I'm undertaking a 16 week training programme to prepare me to complete 24 miles over challenging terrain, with an ascent of 6000' in 12 hours. Having had a spinal fracture in my 20's and a hip replacement in 2014, this is a biggie for me.... Funds will be split 50/50 between my 2 causes, and will go to help pay for vet care, flea and worm treatments, and speciaist diets. I'll be paying the Just Giving fees so all funds raised go to the causes. I love holidaying in the Greek Islands, but always have concerns about animal welfare issues when I'm there. Last September I helped out at the Souda Shelter Project in Crete, where a friend is an active volunteer, and want to continue my support by raising funds. They do an amazing job caring for former street dogs, providing vet care and moving them on to new homes. Their aim is to empty the shelter and then rebuild with much better facilties. Visit http://www.soudashelter.org/ to find out more. My other cause is the RSPCA branch I work for. We care for animals removed from their owners for cruelty, abuse and neglect, and provide rehabilitation whilst their cases go through court. The capacity of these animals to recover and trust people truly inspires me. We see horrendous things on a daily basis but also achieve some very happy endings when the legal proceedings end and we can find them loving new homes.
