Kenya do it?

Well, it looks like I'm doing it again after a break of eight years. On the 17th of May 2018, along with my daughter Nazarena (Nazy), we'll be taking-on the infamous Three Peaks of Yorkshire Challenge. A casual 24 mile stroll in the Yorkshire Dales which also includes about 5200 feet of ascent. The objective is to finish in 12 hours. I know the route reasonably well having completed the trek in 2008, 2009, and 2010 along with colleagues from Cummins. Why do this again? Well, this summer Nazy has been accepted on a placement with the charity VSO, Voluntary Service Overseas. She'll spend two months in Kenya in a range of activities including working alongside entrepreneurs sowing and growing small businesses with the goal of helping alleviate poverty through economic development. Nazy's costs are funded through ICS - a government run organisation that sends British volunteers abroad as part of it's foreign aid program; however, the first challenge of her placement is to raise a target of £800 for the VSO charity to continue their programme of fighting poverty through volunteering. In addition to the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge we're also holding a 'book and bake' sale right here at Edible Ornamentals on Sunday, 13 May 2018. There will be a great selection of cakes but I'm sure there will be one or two seasoned with a little chilli. :) How can you get involved? Please donate money easily using Nazy's Just Giving page (below). You can also donate by texting NAZY97 and the amount to 70070. Alternatively, please consider donating books and cakes for the sale. Please get in touch if you can help with either of those. Or if any adventurous souls would like to join us in Yorkshire either on the trail or just driving a support vehicle, you are very welcome indeed. Please get in touch. Thanks for taking the time to read and please consider sharing this post. Fundraising for VSO

VSO's vision is a world without poverty. Mission We bring people together to address marginalisation and poverty. Our unique role in international development is to place committed volunteers with carefully selected organisations so their skills generate the greatest value. We know, from sixty years of experience, that when teachers pass on their skills to others, community groups shown reliable sources of income, and governments helped to make systems fairer, this brings about lasting change.
