"Challenging Ourselves to Change the World"

The challenge is taking place because I (Kiri) am going away on September the 18th to volunteer with VSO ICS in Malawi. My Dad (Bill) is a keen mountaineer and wanted to get involved for moral support and to challenge himself, as well as to back up with the navigation. My friend Olivia is also a mountain lover and wanted to come along for fun! She also has never been up Ben Nevis so thought it was a good time to do it. My mum (Sarah) is also coming mainly to drive but would like to do Snowdon with us at the end.

Fundraising for VSO ICS

VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) ICS (International Citizen Service) is a government run programme for 18-25 year olds, funded by the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID). It allows young people to go away and help combat poverty in developing countries through volunteering. There are a number of different programmes you can take part in, mine is based around sexual health. Jobs will include -- Creating awareness on the prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), early and unprepared pregnancies among school going youths, mostly girls. -- Helping to educate and prevent HIV/AIDS among the youths, in school and out of school. -- Promoting healthy relationships among the youths. -- Helping young people to acquire skills of healthy decision making.
