Three Peaks for Winnicott

About the group

I’m not a huge fan of being electrocuted while doing a ToughMudder (it hurts!), so I had to find a new challenge to raise money for The Winnicott Foundation.

So, on the 5th July, myself and a small team are going to attempt to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & 24 hours.

We'll be walking approximately 26 miles, covering nearly 10,000ft of ascent and driving along over 1,000 miles of road. A piece of cake – which is what we’ll be eating once we’ve finished the challenge.

We've covered the what and when, so onto the important part - the why.

The simple answer is my beautiful twin daughters - Betty & Edie.

They were born into this world 12 weeks earlier than they should have been and each weighed around the same as a bag of sugar. In very simple terms, without the care of the incredible staff at Queen Charlotte's hospital, they wouldn't be here today.

Here’s a short film about their time in hospital -

When we took the girls back to say hello, and thank you, to the nurses who helped them through those first months of life, it reinforced what a special place the unit is and also the massive effort and huge cost of helping to ensure the survival of any babies born prematurely.

Fundraising for Winnicott Foundation

We're raising money to help The Winnicott Foundation (Charity No 292668). The Winnicott Foundation support the neonatal units at Queen Charlotte’s and St. Mary’s hospitals and help to bring hope to parents and families of premature babies through the fantastic work they do. This challenge and the fundraising we’re doing is a way of showing our immense gratitude for saving the lives of Betty & Edie and also to celebrate the fact they have now been fully discharged from paediatric care.
