Tim Clacy, Dominic Clacy and Rachael Harding will be attempting the Three Peaks in 24hrs as part of training for a Kilimanjaro climb in September. Matt Harding as kindly agreed to stand in as driver for the challenge. We are collecting donations for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Fundraising pageWe wanted to climb for a local and life saving cause; one which we can see making a difference. On our camping holidays in North Devon we see how important rescue helicopters are in reaching inaccessible areas on a regular basis. The local Hampshire service is just as important, demonstrating timely response to an incident in Whitchurch of which I was an observer. This incident brought home to both of us the importance of the service, and personally I feel uncomfortable knowing how heavily the Air Ambulance depends on charitable donations. Every day the Air Ambulance crew provide an efficient, prompt response to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses, and many other incidents throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The Helicopter is called out many times per day, and the missions are often life saving. The air ambulance can usually be airborne within four minutes and can reach most locations in Hampshire in fifteen minutes. Patients can be taken quickly to the hospital which is most appropriate for their injury. The air ambulance service is not free, but costs around £110,000 per month to maintain the service - approx £3,600 per day or £150 per hour!
The National Three Peaks Challenge takes in the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, often in 24 hours.
