Three Peaks Challenge

On Saturday the 27th of May, 1961 we left Writtle Agricultural College near Chelmsford at 12:30 p.m. and drove to Wales. At 8:30 p.m. we started our challenge going up the Miners' track on Snowdon. At 10:25 p.m. we set off for Wasdale Head starting our ascent of Scafell Pike at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday. At 6:10 a.m. we set off for Fort William and started our ascent of Ben Nevis at 12:50 p.m. We reached the foot of Ben Nevis at 5:28 p.m. on Sunday May 28 completing the Three Peaks Challenge in 20 hours 58 minutes. We then drove 544 miles back to Writtle arriving for the college breafast on Monday morning, 29 May, 1961 at 8:00 a.m. All of us climbed and we shared the driving.
