My names Lawrence, a normal 27 year old, active, social, healthy, outgoing and having recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis I have to say it came as a bit of a shock. Getting slapped up the face with news of a life long illness I knew nothing about, the more I read the more I wanted to a) Raise awareness of what it was/is and the effects and b) Raise money to help both the on-going research into the disease and for the researchers who are working endlessly towards getting the cure, but also to help support the work that a lot of volunteer organisations & charities are doing in assisting people like myself. More than 100,000 people in the UK have MS. People are most likely to be diagnosed with MS in their 40s and 50s. My first symptom’s came at 25 and I was diagnosed at the prime young age of 26 (it’s happened this way so I have more time and energy to kick its ass). MS affects almost three times as many women as men (I always knew I was special) we don't know the cause and we haven't yet found a cure, but research is progressing fast!! MS can be a very debilitating and life limiting disease and often results in people losing their independence and realising that they will not be able to do the day to day things they once took for granted; walking, talking normally, standing up without stumbling over, seeing properly right down to something as simple as holding a knife and fork to name a few. These are some of the symptoms I’ve personally had to come to terms with, but day by day, with a positive can do attitude these go to the back of the queue of things i’m going to concentrate on. I’m air punching my way through life, tackling each obstacle as they come and smashing them out of the park... something I aim to continue to do, hence this challenge and this is only the start. We now also have people in Ireland climbing Mt Errigal... the show of strength continues!! Thankfully I will not be doing this alone thanks to the great support I have from family and friends around me. As soon as I mentioned what I wanted to do and why there was no question about it, the guys were getting on board to help. We will provide updates as we get closer to the time and you can follow the journey (more details to come). Look forward to increasing the number of recruits, see you at the finish line and keep her lit!! £1000 initial target but lets see how big we can go and add another zero to that! :)
